10 important questions on Carelink

WHAT’S DIFFERENT ABOUT THIS NEW CARELINK SYSTEM?

The new system is designed for more efficiency and usability, which is available anywhere, anytime on any device. The new system includes three new reports that provide specific discussions that could improve a patient’s diabetes while using a sensor-augmented insulin pump.

WHY SHOULD HCPS AND PATIENTS USE THIS SYSTEM?

The CareLink® software helps healthcare professionals make more informed diabetes therapy decisions. CareLink reports combine all blood glucose, sensor glucose, and insulin pump data into a complete picture, with intelligent analysis and pattern recognition that provide actionable insights. Furthermore, the new CareLink software provides easier access from more devices (e.g. Mac and iPad) and an updated design for a better user experience. Patients should continue to use CareLink Personal, which will be updated to support the MiniMed 670G system.

CAN HCPS ACCESS THE MINIMED 530G OR MINIMED 630G SYSTEMS THOSE REPORTS FROM THIS NEW SOFTWARE?

Yes, the new CareLink software for HCPs does allow you to upload and get the regular reports for MiniMed 630G, MiniMed 530G, and older pump systems.

WILL CARELINK NEED TO BE UPGRADED AGAIN WITH THE MINIMED 670G SYSTEM OR WILL IT USE THE BLACK CARELINK USB AND UPGRADE WE ARE INSTALLING FOR THE MINIMED 630G SYSTEM?

There will be a new version of CareLink for HCPs (not called CareLink Pro) and an update to CareLink Personal at the time of the MiniMed 670G system commercialization for managing HCL features. You will continue to use the same black CareLink USB or CONTOUR NEXT LINK 2.4 meter to upload.

Yes,the CareLink report will show the micro boluses amount over time on the new sensor trace graph 3 hour window in the Weekly Review report. The units are normalized to U/hr for micro boluses.

DOES THE CARELINK REPORT GIVE YOU RECOMMENDATIONS OF MANUAL MODE BASAL RATE BASED ON THE AUTO BASAL RATES? CAN YOU SET/UPDATE YOUR MANUAL MODE BASAL RATE BASED ON THE AUTO BASAL RATES?

The new CareLink report does not provide basal rate recommendations for manual mode based on the auto basal. The reason is that the auto basal is a combination of true basal need + correction basal to keep you at or get you to the target, every 5 minutes. It doesn’t distinguish which portion is true basal need and which portion is correction related, therefore itis not possible to isolate the specific basal pattern used in Manual Mode.

IF I UPGRADED FROM THE MINIMED 630G SYSTEM TO THE MINIMED 670G SYSTEM, WOULD I BE ABLE TO SEE SIDE BY SIDE REPORTS ?

The new online CareLink system will allow you to upload the MiniMed 630G, 530G, and older pumps. You can print a MiniMed 630G report and a separate MiniMed 670G report and view them side by side, but they won't be on the same page.
