How does the suckling reflex work?
Oxytocin is relased into the blood stream due to sensory stimulation of the nipple and travels through the mammary glands. The cells surrounding the milk-collecting lumens of the mammary glands then contract upon exposure to oxytocin, causing milk-letdown.
