3 important questions on Endocrine system - Endocrine

What are hormones? Label the attached diagram. What does a hormone do.

Hormones are molecules that are released in one part of the body but regulates the activity of cells in other parts of the body.

Hormones are your body's chemical messengers. They control how cells and organs function,

How does hormone secretion work and is secretion regulated.

Release of most hormones occur in short bursts, woth little or no secretion between bursts.

When stimulated an endocrine gland will release its hormone in more frequents bursts. Increasing the concentration of the hormone in the blood. In the absence of simulation the level of that hormone in the blood decreased,

Regulation of secretion normally prevents overproduction or underproduction of any given hormone and maintainds homeostasis.

Hormones secretion is regulated by 1) signals from the nervous system. 2) chemical changes in the blood and, 3) other hormones. Most hormonal regulation systems work via negative feedback.

What hormone are released from the Anterior pituitary hormones and what do they do?  (6)

Thyroid-stimulating Hormone (TSH) - also called thyrotropin, controls the secretion and other activites of the thyroid gland.

Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) stimulates the adrenal cortex to secrete glucocorticoids such as cortisol.

Luteninising Hormone (LH)

Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) Secretes FSH witch acts on the gonads of males and females, In Males helps control sperm production. In females FSH control menstrual cycle and stimulate the growth of eggs in the ovaries.

Growth Hormone (GH)- Secretes Growth hormone which stimulates general body growth and regulates aspects of metabolism.

Pralactin  (PRL) secretes Pralactin that initiates milk production in the mamary glands
