Course concepts - Environment -> expenditure

5 important questions on Course concepts - Environment -> expenditure

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)

- rate of energy metabolism of a non-growing organism at rest under postabsorptive conditions in a thermoneutral environment

Average daily metabolic rate (ADMR)

= daily energy expenditure (DEE) (2*BMR) = field metabolic rate (FMR) (2/3 * BMR)

Thermal nautral zone (TNZ)

-  range of temperatures in the environment at which a healthy adult animal can maintain a normal body temperature without needing to use energy beyond its normal basal metabolic rate.

Lower critical temperature (LCT)

-  lowest temperature in the TNZ and is the temperature below which the animal must increase metabolic heat to maintain normal body temperature.

Upper critical temperature

- the ambient temperature above which thermoregulatory evaporative heat loss processes of a resting thermoregulating animal are recruited.
