Assessments - What is the methodological quality - Validity
4 important questions on Assessments - What is the methodological quality - Validity
How do you examine construct validity
- Convergent validity
- Divergent validity
- Discriminative validity of known group method
What is divergent validity
The results of 2 assessment instrument that measure different constructs are compared. There should be a low correlation.
What is Discriminative validity or the “Known group method”:
This can be demonstrated when an assessment is able to discriminate between 2 groups of which one is certain they vary on the underlying construct.
Discriminative validity (known group method) is often demonstrated by using an independent t-test as statistical technique. Is there a significant difference between the average score of both groups?

How to interpret correlation
Correlation is expressed as a number between -1 and +1 (r = …). The closer to 1, the higher the correlation. The closer to 0, the lower the correlation. Negative correlation:
When there is a negative correlation, this means that a higher score on test A corresponds to a lower score on test B.
