What is meant by hierarchial organization?
Each level of the sensory system is more complex than the level below, and receives input from the level below. The higher the damage, the more complex and specific the deficit.
What is the difference between sensation and perception?
Sensation is detecting the presence of stimuli, perception is the high-order process of integrating, recognizing, and interpreting complete patterns of sensation.

What is meant by functional segregation?
The three levels of the sensory system contain functionally distinct areas and specialize in their own specific kinds of analysis. The do not act all together to perform the same function.
What is meant by parallel processing?
Parallel processing means that is not a serial fashion of connections, but is one pathway would be broke, another pathway could catch up the damage.
What is the binding problem and how can it be fixed?
The binding problem is the big question; How can our brain make one perception out of so many different pathways? The solution seems to be that perceptions must be a product of combined activity of different interconnected coritcal areas.
