• doctors then didn't know as much as dochtors now. often, they couldn't cure you.
• there weren't as many medicines. those that did exist were too expensive for poor people (te duur)
• people's persenol hygiene was bad. you washed with a bowl and water and went to the toilet on a bucket which was emptied in the canal of river. this caused regular outbreaks of infections diseases.
• food was not as good and less varied than today.
