  • How did Huttons and Lyells idea infuence Darwins thinking about evolution?

Hutton and Lyell studied the geological changes that shaped earth and recognized that the processes that shaped Earth in the past are the same processes that operate in the present. This influenced Darwin's theory of Evolution, because it shows, that things are constantly changing on earth (the enviorment) so why can't organisms?
  • What is Lamarcks hypothesis of Evolution?

Lamarcks hypothesis was divided in 2 principles:
The 1st principle was that parts of the body that are used extensively become larger or stronger, such as the giraffe neck.

The second principle was that these modifications would be given to the offspring of these species which would have had modifications.
  • Who was Charles Lyell?

Charles Lyell was the leading geologist of Darwins time who came up with the uniformitarianism theory.
  • What was Cuvies way of thinking about catastrophism?

Cuvier thought that each boundary between strata represented a catastrophe which destroyed many lifeforms at that place but eventually species from other places would refill the areas.
  • What was the theory of Cuvier?

Cuviers theory was that extinctions must have been a common occurrence throughout history. Even though he saw different species in different strata, he denied the existence of evolution and introduced catastrophism.
  • What did Darwin think of the classification system of Linneaus?

Darwins idea of classification was that it should be based on evolutionary relationship, not by the patterns of their creation.
  • Who is Carolus Linneaus?

    C. Linneaus was a Swedish scientist who sought to classify lifes diversity. He called it: For the greater glory of God.
  • What were the Old Testaments: account of creation?

These testaments held information which said that species were individually designed by god and therefore are perfect.
  • What is the theory of Darwin?

Darwins theory was that animals would adapt to their environment such as natural selection.
  • What is the Darwinian revolution?

The Darwinian revolution, also called Darwinism, is a theory Darwin came up which he then wrote a book about it, called On the origin of species by means of Natural Selection.
