1 What affects our reaction time?
This is a preview. There are 1 more flashcards available for chapter 1
Show more cards here -
Why is the reaction time getting slower once people get older?
- Physical changes in nerve fibres decreasing speed of conduction
- Parts of brain corresponding for motor control lose cells
- Reduced neurotransmitter production
-
Why do males have a faster reaction time (RT) than females?
- Difference presentation of stimulus and muscle contraction
- Motor response is stronger in males
- Difference presentation of stimulus and muscle contraction
-
2 Stimulus and response
This is a preview. There are 1 more flashcards available for chapter 2
Show more cards here -
What are the 5 steps for a stimulus to be transferred into a response?
- Stimulus
- Sensory neuron
- Relay neuron
- Motor neuron
- Response
- Stimulus
-
What is the role of sensory neurons in the 5 steps?
- Notices the stimulus
- Transmits to central nervous system (CNS)
- Notices the stimulus
-
What is the role of motor neurons in the 5 steps?
Motor neurons transmit information from the CNS to effectors, creating a response -
What are the two effectors a motor neuron transmits information towards?
- Muscles
- Glands
- Muscles

3 Hick's law
This is a preview. There are 3 more flashcards available for chapter 3

Give a summary of Hick's law
The more responses to choice, the longer the reaction time (RT) -
What is the response time?
The time it takes to process information and then to make a response. -
What does Choice Reaction Time (CRT) mean and how does it correspond to Hick's law?
It means that there are several stimuli given, but only one must be selected for response; and as Hick’s Law states, the more choices a person has, the slower their reaction time. -
