What is the abbreviation of FCS and what does it?
frame check sequence
The FCS field contains a number that is calculated by the source node based on the data in the frame. This number is added to the end of a frame that is sent. When the destination node receives the frame the FCS number is recalculated and compared with the FCS number included in the frame.
If the two numbers are different, an error is assumed and the frame is discarded -
What is the IPv4 header checksum?
The IPv4 header checksum is a simple checksum (has sum) used in version 4 of the Internet Protocol (IPv4) to protect the header of IPv4 data packets against data corruption. This checksum is calculated only for the header bytes (with the checksum bytes set to 0), is 16 bits long and is a part of the IP packet header. -

What is the crucial part of routing a packet through a router?
Encapsulated layer 2 frame header and forward packet to nexthop out of correct interface
Finding out how to construct the Layer 2 frame header to allow the packet to be properly encapsulated towards its nexthop and forward packet out the correct interface. -
What is stored in the CEF adjacency table?
Layer 2 information frame headers and egress information for each neighbor. -
What are pointers used for in the FIB table?
To point to a particular entry in the adjancency table that stores the appropiate rewrite information. -
Why are pointers used in the CEF FIB table?
Optomized for rapid lookups and to forward the packet faster with layer 2 frame header and egress interface -
What does the CEF table consist of?
FIB & adjancency table -
What is the abbreviation of TCAM?
Ternary content Addressable Memory (ternary=drietal) -
What is holding the forwarding information base and what is the load-balancing method when fast switching is used?
Fast-switching cache (per flow route cache)
Per destination address -
What is holding the forwarding information base and what is the load-balancing method when CEF switching is used?
FIB tree and adjacency table
Per hash of the packet source and destination or per packet
