What is a manic episode?
- Inflated self-esteem or grandiosity

What is a hypomanic episode?
- Same symptoms as manic disorder
- The disturbance in mood and the change in functioning are observable by others. The episode is not severe enough to cause marked impairment. Not hospitalized. Psychotic features not possible.
Note: Hypomanic episode is common in Bipolar I, but not required for diagnosis.
