What is criteria A for PTSD >6 years old

Exposure to actual or threatened death, serious injury, or sexual violence in one or more of the following ways:
  • Directly experiencing traumatic event
  • Witnessing
  • Learning that the traumatic event occurred to a close family member
  • Experiencing repeated or extreme exposure to aversive details of the traumatic event. (first responders) (not via media) 

What is criteria B for PTSD >6 years old

Presence of one or more of the following intrusion symptoms:
  • Recurrent , involuntary, and intrusive distressing memories (children: can be repetitive play)
  • Distressing dreams of related content or affect (childrend: also unrecognizable content)
  • Dissociative reactions (flashbacks)
  • Psychological distress at exposure to internal or external cues.
  • Marked physiological reaction to these cues 

What is criteria D for PTSD >6 years old

Negative alterations in cognitions and mood associated with the traumatic event. 2 or more of:
  • Dissociative amnesia (inability to remember important aspect of traumatic event)
  • Exaggerated negative beliefs or expectations about oneself, others or the world
  • Individual blames him/herself or others
  • Persistent negative emotional state
  • Diminished interest or participation in significant activities
  • Feelings of detachment or estrangement from others
  • Inability to experience positive emotions
  • Higher grades + faster learning
  • Never study anything twice

Specifiers for PTSD >6 years old?

Specify whether;
  • With dissociative symptoms
  • Depersonalization : Feeling detached from body (sense of unreality of self)
  • Derealization: unreality of surroundings (world is unreal)

Specify if:
  • With delayed expression: full diagnostic criteria are not met until at least 6 months after the event (although the onset and expression of some symptoms may be immediate).

What is criteria C for PTSD <6 years old?

One or more of following 6 symptoms
Persistent Avoidance of Stimuli: (split in two symptoms)
  • Avoidance or efforts of activities, places, or physical reminders that arouse recollections of the traumatic event(s).
  • Avoidance of or efforts to avoid people, conversations, or interpersonal situations that arouse recollections of the traumatic event(s).
Negative Alterations in cognitions:
  • increased frequency of negative emotional states
  • diminished interest in activities: including play
  • socially withdrawn behavior
  • reduction in expression of positive emotions.     

What is criteria D for PTSD <6 years old?

Marked alterations in arousal and reactivity associated with the traumatic event. Two or more: (same as adults, except reckless behavior)
  • Irritable behaviour and angry outbursts
  • Hypervigilance
  • Exaggerated startle response
  • Problems with concentration
  • Sleep disturbance
