Around 1430 the exploration of the world started. People in Europe traded silk, spices, luxury goods and with the indies. Across their journey over land they not only had to live throug all kinds of trouble but also pay taxes to the Ottomans.

From 1430 people stated to use ships to travel to the Indies to avoid the Ottoman taxes.  Because the limited navigation abilities and small ships they could only follow the coastlines up until the first period of their explorations.

When navigation skills/techniques improved and better ships were developed the next step emerged. Ships need to be equipped and this costed a lot of money. Portugese and Spanisch monarch funded the first trips to explore the world to find better/cheaper/faster routes to the indies. During their trips the colonised countries and converted there inhabitants to Christianity.
