what happened in Pompeii and Herculaneum in 79 AD.
they buth where built on the side of mount vesuvius, a vulcano that has been quiet for 800 years. at noon on a sunny augustus day vesuvius suddenly erupted. tonnes of ashes spurted up into the clear blue sky. pompeii and herculaneum were quickly covered in two metres of ashbut. most people survived. next morning vesuvius erupted again. this times red- hot rocks and ash poured from the volcano. travelling at 100 miles an our, much faster than people could run, the lava and ahs quickly covered Pompeii and Herculaneum. about 5000 people died horrible. -
why is the eruption of the vulcanic vesuvius so important for archeologists and historians?
for 1500 years the two cities lay undisturbed beneath the ash and lava. in the late 1700s they were rediscovered. since then, archeologists have excavated them up , bit-by-bit. they found 2 roman cities, almost exactly as they were on that horrible day. so archeologists can exactly see how it was in that time. -

what where similarity between perriod when the kings ruled rome and the emperor?
one leade, no elections or democracy (like a republic the people rule the country) -

- patricians= rich and powerful romans, they lived in big houses, had many slaves to wait on them and enjoyed a luxurious lifestyle.- plebeians= poorer romans. = they lived in crowded flats, has to work hard, and had few luxuries. -

a slave = a person with few rights, owned bu his master and has to work without pay.how do somebody become a slave?= some slaves where criminals but most slaves were foreigners who roman soldiers took prisoner when they conquered a country. they where take to rome and sold as slaves.how man people where slaves?

a freed slave (people who are no slaves anymore: freed by their masters).what power dida roman father have over his family?
