The development of B lymphocytes - Induction of immune responses (I)

4 important questions on The development of B lymphocytes - Induction of immune responses (I)

What are the thymus dependent responses?

Dependent on CD4T cells. This T cell dependent respons is the most frequent B cell response. These responses have a high affinity and isotype switched antibodies.

What is the thymus independent responses?

Not dependent on CD4T cells. These antibody responses have a low affinity and have an IgM isotype. This is not the normal B cell response.

Where do naive B cells find their antigen?

Antigens are captures by subcapsular sinus macrophages and follicular dendritic cells.
They keep intact Ag on their surface by which B cells can be activated.
Complement receptors bind to complement coated Ag.

How do you get different isotypes?

DNA: exons coding for contant regions of different isotypes

Naive B cells (before they have bound Ag) express IgM and IgD on their membrane. These are the only isotypes that can be simultaneously be produced by B cells. After activation of naive B cells IgM is produced first.
