  • General term of Business Information Management

Business information management includes both operational and strategic processes and activities

Information management is the link between business and IT and it's of essential importance to companies that these two effectively support each other.
  • Name at least 3 things that Business Information Management has to deal with:

    - supporting the use of information provisioning
    - mapping out the needs for information provisioning or changes in this
    - Translating and formulating these into a concrete demand for IT support and non-automated information provisioning
    - deciding what is and what is not to be done, when it is to be done and the level to which it will be carried out
    - determining and drafting long term perspectives of information provisioning
  • Information management includes more than just an automated part, what else does it include?

Non-automated information provisioning (whether or not formal) is at least as important

This is formed by procedures, work instructions, and regulations on how to use information systems, together with manual or semi-automated administration
  • Relationship between Business Information Administration and Information management

Business information management is a function, an organization that manages the information provisioning and its use

Information management (=strategic) operates in the same domain as business information administration (=operational)
  • What are the 3 levels within business information management?

    1. The operational level -- intrinsic design of information provisioning

    2. The managing level -- management of time, quality, money, agreements and contracts

    3. The strategic level -- information provisioning and organization and management are designed on long term basis (information management )
  • 2 Chapter 2

  • What are the 3 process clusters on the operational level

    1. Use management cluster -- to ensure that existing information provisioning provides optimal support to the business processes and are used adequately

    2. Functionality management cluster -- changes to information provisioning are analyses, worked out and the organization is prepared for change

    3. Connecting process cluster -- ensures that the correct changes to information provisioning are carried out in practice, so they can then ben operated by the users.
----> provides synchronization between use management and functionality management clusters
  • How can you describe 'the managing processes'

The management processes cluster ensures that the means are available for information provisioning and that its use is managed inline with the needs and possibilities of the organization.
  • What are the 3 process clusters of the strategic processes

    1. Information strategy cluster -- deals with design of information provisioning on the longer term , recognizing what is necessary to achieve this and outline scenarios in order to achieve the desired situation.

    2. I-organization strategy cluster -- refers to the organization of information provisioning. The strategy is determined in terms of the form this organization should take and what the roles and responsibilities of the various divisions are.

    3. Connecting strategic processes: information coordination -- this cluster (one process of information coordination) deals with the coordination and communication of the various form sof policy developed in previous clusters
  • Why should the information from the various clusters be distributed among the other clusters?

So the correct considerations and choices can be made. It is not possible to optimally carry out all of the activities in a cluster without information from the other processes
