  1. Information technology

  1. People: those who are directly involved in the information system 
  2. Structure: the organizantional design (hierachy vs decentralized), reporting (functional, divisional, matrix) and relationship (communication and reward mechanisms) within the IS

• What is a firm external environment

  A firm’s external environment encompasses regulation, the competitive landscape, and general business & social trends.

• Explain first (automate) order change

  when a digital technology innovation is introduced that modifies how an existing process is performed. Also called ‘automation’.

• Why is the second order change also called as 'informate'?

  Bovendien verandert de manier waarop mensen met de technologie omgaan ook. Deze verandering treedt meestal op wanneer de informatie-intensiteit van het uitgevoerde proces aanzienlijk verandert als gevolg van nieuwe digitale technologieën. Het wordt daarom ook wel "informate" genoemd.

• Explain the second order change

  Here not only the manner in which the process is performed changes, but also the people who perform it will differ, such as role changes or a new set of people that are now involved. Moreover, the manner in which people interact with the technology also changes. This change usually occurs when the information intensity of the process being performed changes substantially due to new digital technologies.

• Explain the third (transform) order change

   It involves first and second order changes, but in addition it causes organizational structure disruptions. It is the most radical level of change, which is why it is also called transform. A flatter organizational structure usually emerges after the implementation.
