  • What are the 2 subsystems of the components of the information systems + the elements? And what is the difference

    1. Technical subsystem (information technology & Process)
    (Does not include human elements)
    2. Social subsytem (People & Structure)
    (Does include human elements)
  • Describe the two components of the technical subsystem

    1. Information technology
Hardware, software and telecommunication equipment: a cornerstone of  any modern Information system. (software design is an opinion of the developer)
    2. Process
Series of steps to complete a business activity
  • What is often the root cause of IS failure?

The cap between the process in the document and the way the process are actually performed.
  • Describe the two components of the social subsystem

    1. People: those who are directly involved in the information system
    2. Structure: the organizantional design (hierachy vs decentralized), reporting (functional, divisional, matrix) and relationship (communication and reward mechanisms) within the IS
  • What represents a firm's strategy?

What the firm is trying to do and what actions will the firm undertake to get there.

De strategie van een bedrijf vertegenwoordigt de manier waarop de organisatie haar doelstellingen wil bereiken: wat probeert het bedrijf te doen en welke acties onderneemt het om haar doelstellingen te bereiken?doelstellingen wil bereiken:
  • What is a firm external environment

A firm’s external environment encompasses regulation, the competitive landscape, and general business & social trends.
  • Explain first (automate) order change

when a digital technology innovation is introduced that modifies how an existing process is performed. Also called ‘automation’.
  • Why is the second order change also called as 'informate'?

  • Explain the second order change

Here not only the manner in which the process is performed changes, but also the people who perform it will differ, such as role changes or a new set of people that are now involved. Moreover, the manner in which people interact with the technology also changes. This change usually occurs when the information intensity of the process being performed changes substantially due to new digital technologies.
  • Explain the third (transform) order change

It involves first and second order changes, but in addition it causes organizational structure disruptions. It is the most radical level of change, which is why it is also called transform. A flatter organizational structure usually emerges after the implementation.
