    - Fundamental = more theoretical than practical (uni) & applied research = solving a problem with a practical application (college)
    - Qualitative & and quantitative research

    Qualitive & quantative research combined in one research design -> increases validity
  • What are the rules of research?

    A research must be:
    - Independent: Unbiased
    - Objective: Don't let your personal preference influence the research
    - Falsifiability of statements: Your theory must be able to be proven
    - Reliable: Trustworthy, no random errors
    - Informative: the information content of your statements must be optimal
    - Generalizable: Widely applicable
    - Validity: are you able to draw conclusions from your results 
    - Practical criteria: efficient and usable

    - Problem analysis: Why is it important to do research?
    - Research design: How will I? What will I use?
    - Fieldwork: conduct the research
    - Analysis: process the gathered data

  • What is a stipulative definition?

    definition that apply to specific research project
  • What are examples of quantitative data collection methods?

    - Surveys (postal, telephone, online, face-to-face)
    - secondary analysis  (+:saving time, cheaper)  
    - experimental research: data collected from people in a controlled situation. beware of placebo( do double-blind testing: doctor and participants dont know which medicine is what) and Hawthorne effect. Randomization! 
    - Monitor: time, longitudinal research.
