    Long stretching networks of cultural and economic exchange. Even beyond the border they know the culture, globally network city (economic and cultural)
  • Why do we imagine multicultural cities as new?

    19th century in Europe saw rise of modern nation states. Nations cultivated (or invented) shared identities and cultures. Nations policed their border, culturally (language for example) but also physically. Rise of passport, migration controls, universal citizenship. In the 20th century these European cities/ nations were very stable and nothing changes much. Economic development an fixed political units created demographic stability in these societies. NB. This story is VERY specific to Europe.
