Throughput time
4 important questions on Throughput time
What is the definition of the throughput time(=doorlooptijd)? With which character of queuing models can you compare throughput time?
- Time that passes between the moment at which the product is taken into production and the moment at which the product is ready
- Ws
How do you estimate the deterministic throughput time?
What do you ignore by using the deterministic approach? And is the deterministic throughput time smaller than the actual average throughput time?
- Deterministic means that you ignore any probability distributions(dus elke afwijking negeer je)and just use the average value (or mean or expected value; in Dutch: verwachte waarde of gemiddelde) Furthermore, we will ignore waiting line effects.
- Deterministic throughput time is smaller than (or equal to) the actual average throughput time

How to Calculate Throughput Rates
- The calculation is: Throughput = total good units produced / time.
- Line efficiency = .90 x .93 x .92 = .77 or 77 percent efficiency for the line itself.
- Line throughput = 90 pieces per hour x .77 = 69 pieces per hour.
