Designers perspective - Societal focus

3 important questions on Designers perspective - Societal focus

What is the difference between a star shaped and network shaped stakeholder model?

A star shaped model is about stakeholder management. A network shaped model is about stakeholder engagement, in which you see your organization as part of a bigger network.

How can you design on a societal level?

With the present developments, mechanisms (consensus model) are put under pressure. Regulations on a national level is not enough anymore. This is aligned with the political perspective in which dialogue between actors is important to solve world problems. It's important to shape and reshape the relations between organizations, employees, unions, government parties and other stakeholders. Deliberateness and multi-level stakeholder perspective are key.

What is the relevance of the deliberate process for individual organizations?

1. They need to understand their role in stakeholder network formation
2. They need to understand the importance of institutional conditions already in place
3. They need to engage in constructive deliberation on improving societal issues

Basic assumption: over time, organizations/actors in stakeholder fields can adapt and change existing values and norms in a particular field, and become more homogeneous (institutional isomorphism)
