LTP plasticity

5 important questions on LTP plasticity

What is the function of the hippocampus in information storage?

Via the hippocampus information is stored in association cortices.

What are the possible changes in synapses?

Greater neurotransmitter release
Greater effect due to changes in receptors(size)

How does LTP work?

By the pre and postsynaptic cell firing at the same time the synaps becomes stronger. When activated CAmk2 causes more AMPA receptors to be produced and inserted in the postsynaptic membrane this alters genome expression.

Where does synaptic plasticity take place in the hippocampus?

Dentate gyrus and subiculum
