Why does a diet based on primarily fatty acids, cause a higher VO2 during exercise?

Beause per molecule O2 fatty acids generate less ~P (5.65), than carbohydrates (6.0). So for the same work rate has to be performed on fatty acids, a higher VO2 is needed (and a higher heart rate is the result).

VCO2 decreases while exercising on a diet based on primarily fatty acids. This is seen in the RQ. When is this effect most appearant. This effect is most strinkingly at rest, what can be the explanation?

The muscles are able to extract carbohydrates even from a low-carb diet. So the muscles select the most oxygen efficient fuel for aerobic work.
