    Star:these have a high market growth as well as a relative high market share.

    question mark: are characterized by a high market growth and a relatively 
    low market share. question marks maub turn out to be tomorrows "stars".

    cash cow: this is wher eprofit is being made. these SBU's have low market growth but a high relative market share and a large postive cash flow. 

    Dog: these SBU's ask the question of whether and if so these activities need to be stopped. dogs have low market growth as well as a low relative market share.

    1. market penetration:

    new markets for existing products can be developed: for example, a restaurant opening a take away service. or selling of existing products in foreign markets

    4. diversification
