Research objective, research question and conceptual model - Research question

12 important questions on Research objective, research question and conceptual model - Research question

What are the requirements for a good research question?

1. It must be in line with the research objective
2. Must be specific and percise and achievable
3. The question must relate to the knowledge part.

How can knowledge about a phenomena be distinguished? (D,E,E)

Descriptive; describe phenomena. Which, what, how.
Explanatory; explain a phenomena. Why
Evaluative; research the validity of an assumption. Often a yes/no question.

In exploratory research the question is asked in a more exploratory way: which factors etc. This is part of descriptive research.

How can the state or development of a research question be distinguished?

Static; cross-sectional, one point in time
Dynamic; longitudinal, over a period of time.

How can a research question be distinguished by time aspect?

Retrospective
Present
Prospective

What is a domain?

The set of units on which the investigator wishes to draw conclusions.

The answer to the question of why the problem is worth studying can take two forms:

  • The question may be scientifically relevant: you are investigating something about which nothing or little is known. lt is relevant for the existing body of knowledge.
  • The question may be socially or practically relevant: the answer provides knowledge that can help solve social and/or practical problems.

A causal relationship is always

asymmetrical (a ➔ b, not b ➔ a).

A symmetrical relationship

two-way traffic.

Not every connection is proof of causality. In that case, there is a....

Spurious corelation.

Lnteraction effects ( moderator variable)

lt is also possible that one factor does not affect another, but rather the re/ationship between two
other factors.

Lf the observation and units of analysis are basically the same, we are talking about the....

level of aggregation of units and their associated varia bles.

Example: the team members are the observation unit (individual level), the team is the unit of analysis
(level of group).

When aggregation levels are hierarchically ordered, one speaks of a nested research element.

  • Ecological fallacy: wrong conclusions are being drawn because the level of aggregation of the units of analysis is smaller than the of the units of observation.
  • Atomistic fallacy: wrong conclusions are being drawn because the level of aggregation of the units of analysis is larger than the of the units of observation.

The question on the page originate from the summary of the following study material:

  • A unique study and practice tool
  • Never study anything twice again
  • Get the grades you hope for
  • 100% sure, 100% understanding
