Selectins gaan als eerst te werk. Zitten voornamelijk op leukocyten. Maar door de cytokinen worden P-selectins ook beschikbaar op het endotheel. (ze zitten anders in de cel)
Ze hebben een lage affiniteit met de leukocyten. Waardoor ze los en vast zitten en dus rollen. Door de blood flow gaan ze weer los.
Dit proces heet ook wel diapedesis.
