Intrinsic challenges and diffusion challenges are two different types of challenges that grassroots innovations may face:

  • Intrinsic challenges refer to internal challenges that are inherent to the grassroots innovation itself, such as limited resources, lack of institutional support, resistance to change, regulatory barriers, sustainability, limited scalability, and limited visibility.
  • Diffusion challenges refer to external challenges that arise from the process of diffusing grassroots innovation to a wider audience, such as overcoming cultural and linguistic barriers, building trust with new communities, adapting to different contexts and needs, and managing conflicts and tensions between different stakeholders.
