What is state failure?
State failure should be seen as a new label that is able to include a range of regime crises and major political conflicts. These are exemplified by a couple of nations/territories such as Somalia, Bosnia, Liberia, Afghanistan, Congo-Kinshasa.

Which types of tests are used to test Huntington's predictions?
- The nr. of civ. conflicts and non civ. conflicts every year ranging from 1950 to 1996 (this relates to the first 2 hypotheses proposed)
- The strength (magnitude) of civ. + non-civ. conflicts are compared (H3)
- The nr. of conflicts between potential pairs of civilisations during and after the cold war (H4 + H5). This tests whether certain civs. are more imposed to conflict.
What can you say about the significance of the data?
All data used in this study are the total amount of conflicts and not just a sample. This means that any differences that are found in this study are realistic.
