What does the executive organ do?

Hold regular meetings (e.g. once a week) and are made up of member states’ representatives, based on selection (from GA membership), with permanent and non-permanent membership possible (e.g. the Council of the LoN, UNSC, ECOSOC).

What is the trusteeship council?

An executive organ until 1994. It aimed to help establish national self-determination and independence in states, taking over the role of the LoN’s Mandate Commission. These territories were then put under the authority of the Trusteeship Council, with the main difference of preparing all these territories for independence (e.g. the last territory that gained independence was Palau in 1994).

What is the economic and social council (ECOSOC)?

Promotes international cooperation in the economic, social and humanitarian fields, with an outreach function of connecting the funds, programs and specialized agencies (e.g ILO, FAO, IMF) as well as NGOs to the UN, who gives accreditation as a consultative status. Its main role is to coordinate high-level political forums on sustainable development (e.g. G7, WB, IMF, OECD 2021).
